Mike Lee is the Chief Strategy Officer for Rogers Communications Inc. Mike is responsible for strategy development, business development, and strategic partner management for the Rogers Communications group of companies which include Rogers Cable, Rogers Wireless and Rogers Media.

Previously, Mike held the role of Vice President, Strategy and Development for Rogers Cable where he managed the development of new businesses and services for video, high speed Internet and telephony. Mike sits on the Boards of Espial, Zoocasa.com and EPIC!

Steven Woods
Waterloo Site Director

Steven Woods oversees the Google Waterloo site where he is responsible for building, evolving, leading, and directing engineering teams for a variety of projects important to Google. Steven represents Google to the local technology community including academia and other potential corporate partners. He collaborates with other Google development leaders on determining overall Google engineering management directions.

Prior to Google, Steven founded NeoEdge Networks to help consumer, gaming, and online entertainment companies deliver the highest-quality user online experiences. NeoEdge Networks today is the leading in-game advertising company for casual games in the world.

Paras Dharamshi
VP, Client Services

Paras Dharamshi oversees Simpro’s delivery and account management organizations. Prior to joining Simpro, Paras was the General Manager for Matrixx Networks Inc. where he was responsible for strategic development, overall corporate growth and profitability. Paras’ experience in strategic growth commenced at Sigma Systems where he held a variety of progressive management roles within the professional services organization.

Saul Colt

Saul Colt is the Lead Evangelist for Thoora. He was recently named as one of the iMEDIA 25: Internet Marketing Leaders & Innovators and has been called one of Canada's best community builders/experiential marketers and Chris Brogan once referred to Saul as "exactly who you want representing your company”. Anish Acharya

Sadi Khan
Program Manager

Sadi is a recent graduate of Waterloo. In his first year there (as a full-time) he was the PM for delivering the Progression platform as part the Visual Studio 2010 release. It pioneers a new visualization and architectural analysis approach to software development and design - and will be a key strategic technology for the future of of Visual Studio Team System. Currently he is working on (yet another) V1 incubation product within Visual Studio.

He is passionate about the vision of Business Intelligence for Code - and how we can take data across the domains of code, social networks, business requirements and connect them together to provide better decision making and improved practices in the software development industry.

Brian Clarey
Director, Interactive Practice Lead

Brian has spent more than 12 years working in the Web/Interactive industry, focused on leveraging the online channel to transform traditional sales and customer service models. Brian has developed Web Strategy and lead many award-winning website and Intranet developments including re-branding and re-platforming initiatives, site consolidations and online self-service programs. Brian¹s client resume includes many leading companies such as RIM, Rogers, Bll, RBC, Scotiabank, KeyBank, and Under Armour.

Prior to joining CGI Brian spent five years as Director, Interactive Marketing at Sapient and four years as a Director, Engagement Management at Organic in Toronto. Brian holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University.

Renjie Butalid
Communications Coordinator

Renjie Butalid is currently the Communications Coordinator for Social Innovation Generation at the University of Waterloo, a national collaborative between the University of Waterloo, MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, J.W. McConnell Family Foundation in Montreal and the PLAN Institute in Vancouver, designed to foster a culture of continuous social innovation in Canada. In the past, Renjie was also a co-founder of the Waterloo based Laurel Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, as well as the Vice-President Administration & Finance for the Federation of Students, University of Waterloo, an $8 million student-run corporation with over 200 employees, serving the undergraduate student population at the University of Waterloo. Renjie is also keenly interested in learning how transformative social change happens, and is passionate about building resilient communities. He is also convinced that young people have the power and opportunities like never before to affect positive change in the world. Renjie has a background in Economics & Political Science from the University of Waterloo. He also recently got his open water scuba diving license, and is excited to go scuba diving in the Asia Pacific in the near future.

Lucas Lu
Chief Marketing Officer

Lucas Lu is currently a third year business student at Wilfrid Laurier university. He believes that we are not far from a society that is free of homelessnes, hunger and poverty, as long as we use our technology properly. This inspiration has led him to take on the initiative of Ei3 to leverage existing technologies, especially in social media spectrum. to tackle immediate social issues. He has many experiences in working with individuals who are cornered in our society. He has worked with low income parents and kids in after school literacy programs, a basketball coach at K/W Youth Basketball association, and raising money for food for the homeless and low income earners at St.John's kitchen.

Neil Bunn
Technology Architect, Deep Computing

Neil Bunn is a Technology Architect for IBM specializing in Supercomputing and Complex Computing Solutions. He holds a degree in electrical engineering from Queen's University, is a certified Professional Engineer and is a Senior Member of IEEE. He holds certification as a Master Certified Architect from the Open Group and is a patented inventor for IBM. He has worked for IBM since 2001 and in that time has been part of the design and deployment of four of the fastest supercomputers in the world, including the current sixteenth and eightyth most powerful systems in the world built for the University of Toronto and comprising of more than 5,000 interconnected devices and a total computing capacity of over 380 trillion calculations per second.

Neil specializes in advanced technology and the integration of future devices for research and academic purposes. In his spare time Neil is also a member of the Ontario Trillium Foundation. His first computer was a Timex Sinclair he got when he was six.

Tim Smith
Chief Executive Officer

Tim completed his Honours Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering and Masters of Science in Systems and Networking, both at the University of Toronto. His industry experience includes work in real-time embedded systems, satellite communications, file system design, mobile systems and applications, and scalable web services.

Rob Balahura
Director, Social Platforms

Rob Balahura is the Director of Social Platforms at Electronic Arts. Rob founded J2Play in 2000 by creating and commercializing the world’s first mobile multi-player game for J2ME handsets, and following that with the world’s first cross-media web to mobile multi-player game & SDK. In 2009, Electronic Arts acquired J2Play to support the company’s online and social gaming strategy. Based in Kitchener/Waterloo, Rob’s group is now working across EA in online and social game development.

Julian Spillane
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Julian is the CEO and co-founder of Frozen North Productions, an independent third-party games developer based in Waterloo. Most of his professional experience has been on the periphery of the industry, doing simulation development for the Department of National Defence and developing 3D software for multimedia firms, but his knowledge of the industry and experience in networking and various connections within the industry has helped to foster Frozen North and build it to where it is today.

Today, Frozen North Productions, Inc. is actively developing its first commercial Wii disc release to be released in late 2009. Their goal is to build a top-tier studio with an emphasis on high quality production and sound quality of life. They also want to help put Ontario on the map as a place for the industry to grow and prosper.

Vikas Gupta
President and Chief Executive Officer

Vikas has the privilege of working with an extraordinary team and, together with them, is establishing TransGaming as a global leader in the development of innovative products for the electronic entertainment industry. TransGaming has been featured as a PROFIT Hot 50 company as well as ranking third in the TSX Venture Top 50.

Prior to joining TransGaming, Vikas was the founder and President of InterLogic Systems, a telephony consulting and systems integration firm dedicated to delivering innovative and creative enterprise solutions to Fortune 1000 clients in the areas of Computer Telephony Integration, Interactive Voice Response Systems, and fax processing systems. InterLogic was acquired by Prima Telematic and Vikas served as President of Prima Canada and Executive Vice President of Prima Telematic.

Vikas play an active role in advising and mentoring a number of start-ups, is Chair of the non-profit organization, McCluhan Festival of the Future, and sits on the Board of Interactive Ontario. Vikas is also a frequent speaker and lecturer at the University of Toronto Rotman School of Business and Ryerson University's Business and Technology program. In 2008, Vikas was the recipient of the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur of the Year Award and has also been featured in a broad range of print and television media. Vikas is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, Canada's premier high-tech educational institution.

Shawn Konopinsky is an award-winning team leader and head of Infusion’s User Experience practice. He worked as a Program Manager for Microsoft Office before joining Infusion in 2006. Shawn has been an interface design specialist for over five years, and has been focused on touch and gestural interface since 2007.

Chul Lee
Founder & Chief Technology Officer

Chul started Thoora while he was working as a researcher at the University of Toronto. He previously worked as Applied Research Scientist at Brandimensions investigating various algorithmic approaches to study the formation and evolution of on-line communities. He also worked as Director of R&D at Genieknows, leading a team of engineers to develop local and vertical search engines.

Chul earned his B.Sc. from UDLA-P (Mexico) and his M.Sc/Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.

Brantz Myers
Director, Healthcare Business Development

Brantz Myers is responsible for driving awareness, understanding and demand for network based technologies in the Canadian market. His focus is on Internet Protocol (IP) Communications and a series of vertical industries, including healthcare, retail, financial services and government.

A 20-year veteran of the Canadian information communications technology industry, Brantz joined Cisco back in 2000. Prior to Cisco, he gained experience through sales and marketing positions with Hewlett-Packard, Digital and Compaq.

Ray Newal
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

As President, CEO and co-founder of Jigsee, Ray drives the development, management and execution of Jigsee's strategy. In doing so, Ray leverages his 15 years of sales, and business development experience in the areas of media, advertising and internet technologies, a large part of which was acquired at the formative stage of leaders such as DoubleClick, and MSN. Prior to founding Jigsee, Ray was Vice President, Business Development and Content Acquisition at Yahoo! where he led business development, strategic alliance, and content procurement activity in the Canadian market.

Following his tenure at Yahoo!, Ray took a brief sabbatical in which he backpacked through rural India. While backpacking Ray had the inspiration for Jigsee. He envisioned a world in which even the rural citizens of developing countries had ubiquitous access to rich-media.

Peter Sweeney
Founder & Chief Technology Officer

Peter Sweeney is the Founder & Chief Technology Officer of Primal Fusion Inc. A serial entrepreneur and inventor, Peter has 13-years experience in forming and growing Internet-based companies. His focus is on disruptive innovations that provide new mass market opportunities.

In his current role at Primal Fusion, Peter directs R&D, product development, and market strategy for the company. Based in Waterloo, Ontario and founded in 2005, Primal Fusion is building an advanced platform of semantic technologies to power a more personal and convenient Internet for consumers. Peter’s vision is manifested in “thought networking” as an important new facet of our digital life.

Peter is an avid inventor and technologist. He has several patents and patents pending covering foundational technologies and applications within knowledge representation. His work in facet analysis, semantic synthesis, and adaptive classification systems underlie Primal Fusion’s technology platform. Peter’s interests are directed to highly personalized and scalable semantic networks.

Prior to founding Primal Fusion, Peter was co- Founder, CEO, and later CTO of Indimensions Entertainment Group (now the Official Community Corporation “OCC”). Based in Toronto and founded in 2001, OCC is a global network of online communities for major recording artists. As a pioneer in Web 2.0 community development, Peter defined a disruptive new business model for entertainers in the 21st century that has become the industry’s gold standard.

Darren Anderson

Dr. Darren Anderson was the founding President of Vive Nano. During the early stages of the company’s growth, he was responsible for initial financing, drafting and filing of patent applications, and the creation of Vive Nano’s first product lines. Dr. Anderson currently oversees all technical direction at the company, including product development, strategic direction, and intellectual property. He has over 7 years of experience in the development, characterization, and commercialization of nanomaterials, and has several prestigious awards and publications. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Toronto.

Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry
Canada Research Chair in Tissue Engineering

Dr. Molly Shoichet holds the Canada Research Chair in Tissue Engineering and is Professor of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry, Chemistry and Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto. She is an expert in the study of Polymers for Regeneration which are materials that promote healing in the body. Dr. Shoichet's laboratory has numerous patents (published and pending) on drug delivery and scaffold design. She has founded two spin-off companies from her laboratory. Before being recruited to the University of Toronto in 1995, Dr. Shoichet worked at CytoTherapeutics Inc. on encapsulated cell therapy. Dr. Shoichet is the recipient of such prestigious distinctions as the Canada Council for the Arts’ Killam Research Fellowship, NSERC’s Steacie Fellowship, CIfAR’s Young Explorer’s Award (to the top 20 scientists under 40 in Canada), CSChE’s Syncrude Innovation Award, Canada’s Top 40 under 40 and the Royal Society of Canada’s Rutherford Memorial Award. Dr. Shoichet was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Sciences in 2008. Dr. Shoichet received her S.B. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Chemistry (1987) and her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in Polymer Science and Engineering (1992). She has published over 340 papers, patents and abstracts and has given over 220 lectures worldwide.

Jawad Shuaib
Senior Software Developer

Co-founder of shuzak.com and fuelfeed.net, Jawad Shuaib (http://jawadonweb.com) is a software developer specializing in the social media space. He has extensive experience building online communities and embracing emerging trends and technologies; including data portability, the semantic web, mobile and cloud computing. He has taught at Canada’s leading technology institute, Humber College, and was the Senior Web 2.0 Developer and Marketer at Flavor Technology before joining Achilles Media, where he oversees the development of tools and applications for all the company’s event websites.

Alex Moskalyuk is a software engineer currently working on Facebook's mobile products. His other projects at Facebook include “People You May Know” and the ad targeting system. Prior to Facebook, Alex was working on media projects for Yahoo! Alex graduated with his Master of Science degree from Eastern Washington University in 2003 and attained his Bachelors of Science from Chernivtsi National University in 2001. In his free time, Alex enjoys traveling and, as of recently, learning Japanese. He lives in San Jose, CA.

Clifton Tay
Recruiter

Clifton Tay is a recruiter at Facebook focused on the company’s university talent pipeline. He has been at Facebook since July of 2008. Clifton manages the relationship with several of Facebook’s core universities which includes the University of Waterloo. Prior to Facebook, Clifton worked at General Electric as an IT project manager before moving into a recruiting role at GE Corporate. Clifton is an alum of the Pennsylvania State University graduating in 2003 with a degree in Operations and Information Systems Management and International Business. In his free time Clifton enjoys exploring the city, and as of recently, sharpening his Settlers of Catan skills. He lives in San Franscisco, CA.

Michael Novati
Software Engineer

Michael Novati is a software engineer at Facebook working on internal communication tools for Facebook employees. He has been at Facebook since June 2009 starting as an intern then joining on full time. Michael is also the founder of internSHARE, an internship and co-op review site with over 10,000 members, which acquired Waterloo based CoopRankings in March 2009. Michael graduated from the University of Toronto in 2009 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Science. His research interests include Human Computer Interaction and Social Collaboration. Michael enjoys planning and attending local start-up related business talks. He resides in Palo Alto, California.

Aditya Shah
VP Product Development and Marketing

Aditya Shah is the co-founder and VP of Product Development at EightyTwenty Group, an early-stage software company that is focused on Enterprise 2.0 web and mobile solutions for professional service firms. His past work experience includes technology consulting at Deloitte, and product management positions at Bell Canada and Research in Motion. He plays an active role in the technology and entrepreneurship scene in the GTA, and is involved in various social change initiatives. In the past, Aditya has helped to lead various important youth entrepreneurship initiatives, such as the Impact National Conference and Entrepreneurship Week Canada for Impact (www.impact.org), Canada’s largest student-run entrepreneurship group. He graduated with a Systems Design Engineering Coop degree from the University of Waterloo.
